To Whom It May Concern:

Re: Character Reference -Marlis Kulus

The purpose of this letter is to provide a character reference for Marlis Kulus
whom I have known as a mentor, counselor and friend for a period of twelve
years.

When I met Marlis she was the director of Apple Retreat Ministry, a non-profit
ministry that facilitated spiritual retreats for women. She created a warm relaxing
atmosphere, planned and prepared the meals and presented study material for
the weekend. Through this ministry, I discovered what it meant to be a child of
God and began a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

My husband and I have studied a variety of topics and developed a wonderful
"family" relationship with other Christians in a biweekly Bible study led by Marlis.
As a teacher, Marlis is enthusiastic in her research of studies and succeeds in
finding a format that appeals to the group. Each week she comes prepared with
homework completed, materials previewed and ideas for discussion.

When Marlis took a staff position at Friendship Church, there was a healing
ministry that focused on a couple areas of need. Today the Growth In Grace
Ministry at Friendship Church has grown to cover a broad area of concerns and
uses a variety of ministry tools. Clients come to this ministry hungry for change.
Marlis has been instrumental in assessing a client's spiritual well-being and
recommending areas for healing. Many people including myself have experienced
release from spiritual bondage through this approach.

Marlis is passionate about her faith and she is tenacious in her pursuit of God's
truth. It is that quality that shines like a beacon when gently helping those who
have sometimes lost sight of God's light. These gifts are evident not only in the
church but also in her work with local women's prison inmates.

As friends, we find time to just have fun; whether it's getting the gang together
to play cards or board games on a cold winter night or having a summer cook
out. Marlis is aware of the balance of work, rest, fun, and how it all fits into
one's well-being.

Sincerely,

Nancy Petermeier
